Unstoppable. And a thank you to our military. Happy Memorial Day!

My fifth grade sweetie wrote her promotion speech on the topic of what it means to be unstoppable.

It is a beautiful tribute to her elementary years, as well as an unexpected thank you to our military.  The impact of their service is boundless.  Thank you!!!

What does unstoppable mean to me? It means that you never give up, that you keep going even if things get hard for you.  An anonymous quote that I found said, “Even the bravest of creatures have some fears, but it is not enough to stop them from moving on the path they are designed to walk upon.”

My fear of going into sixth grade is that I want to be seen as normal.  But I have learned that there is no such thing as normal – that being normal is being who you are.

Next year I will be myself and if people don’t like who I am, I will be okay with it.  I won’t change myself so I’m more like who they want me to be.

In elementary school there were many times when I thought I should just give up and walk away.  But every time I thought about doing that, I thought to myself, “What would happen if the army just gave up and walked away?  The freedom we have now wouldn’t be there.”  That made me work harder, and now I don’t even think about walking away.  I sit down and get to work.

I have discovered that I don’t need to be perfect – AND – I never will be perfect.

To conclude my speech, I just wanted you to know that no matter who you are, you can be unstoppable.

  1. Wise words, right there. “But I have learned that there is no such thing as normal – that being normal is being who you are.” Gosh, how amazing would it be if we could all internalize that truth? We would all be unstoppable indeed. Bravo to your smart, beautiful, capable daughter!
