For the past year I have been one of two regulars who attend our local house of prayer meetings. (The other being the founder and leader.)
Four days a week we worshipped and interceeded for our local community. Some days others joined us, but most of the time it was just the two of us.
The time was drawing near when I would be moving out of the area, leaving the faithful founder to continue on his own.
On one of the last few days left, I walked into the church to see a woman sitting alone in the front. When she heard me come in, she turned around, looked me directly in the eyes, and said these words – “Thank you for digging the well so I could come and drink.”
I don’t think I have ever been as deeply encouraged as I was at that moment. All those days of praying by ourselves, I knew we were moving mountains in the kingdom. But to have someone who we’ve never met illustrate the impact of our efforts in that way left me speechless.
I hope to pass along that same encouragement to others who have gone before me. Those who have dug their own well, then allowed it to become a watering hole for those whom God would bring across their path.
